The email server reboot is complete, and CTS staff are now able to assess the situation with inaccessible folders of old/saved email.
The email server (“hermes”) will be rebooted in a few minutes, at 3:00pm, as part of CTS’ attempt to restore email folders for those affected by today’s events.
Email sending and receiving should now be working for all users. However if you were affected by the problem earlier today, your existing email folders are presently not accessible — it will look as if your email account has been freshly created. CTS staff is working to restore access to email folders, however, there is a chance we may have to restore them from backups. There has been a failure in legacy hardware that the email system still uses. Thank you for your understanding and patience. CTS is actively moving to have a far more robust email infrastructure in place by the end of the summer.
Some of our email mailboxes are still inaccessible due to an issue with our storage. We are working to resolve the issue.
I have been unsuccessful at trying to connect the affected mailboxes so I am rebooting the server.
There are currently problems with some email accounts. Investigation is ongoing.
Maintenance of email and account management systems is complete. No problems were encountered — the extra time was due to extensive testing.
Email maintenance is continuing. Announcement will be made when it is finished. No negative impact to end users is expected.
The previously announced email maintenance is commencing. It should not affect your use of the network or campus computing resources. The maintenance should be complete in under an hour, and will be announced.
Host Services will be performing minor software maintenance on our email system this Thursday, May 19, starting at 6:30pm. This is a change in back-end management utilities. It is anticipated that there will be no interruption of service during that time, and no alteration of user experience; however users are advised not to change their passwords during the maintenance. Announcements will be posted at the start and end of the maintenance; it is expected to take no more than an hour.
